Press Release, Feb 16, 2012 Long-awaited in Poland, Open’er is proud to announce Bon Iver, Wiz Khalifa and Bat for Lashes at this year’s edition. Heineken Open’er confirms one of just a few appearances by Justin Vernon’s band July in Europe and their first visit to Poland. They are joined by “Black and Yellow” star Wiz Khalifa and British groovy outfit Friendly Fires. Also appearing, Bat for Lashes’ Natasha Khan will make the fans leap into her frail, magical world. Bon Iver It’s hard to imagine a better moment to announce Bon Iver in the line-up than now, three days after receiving two Grammys and just weeks after the triumph of his eponymous album in album of the year listings. On “Bon Iver”, Justin Vernon remained the producer and key songwriter, yet not the only musician. Even better in terms of composition than the debut “For Emma, Forever Ago”, enriched with nearly inaudible brass instruments and touches of electronica, the album went straight ahead of all competition. Listening to „Perth”, „Calgary” or „Holocene”, it is hard not to say that. „ultimately beautiful” is just a feeble shadow of a compliment
Wiz
Khalifa
3,000,000/13,000,000
- Wiz Khalifa’s genius is easy to show in numbers.
The first one is the number of copies sold by single “Black and Yellow”. The
other one grows with every minute, standing for the number of Wiz’s fans on
Facebook. In between alternative collectives like Odd Future and superstars
like Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa
is bound to succeed and influence new trends in the ever – changing American
hip-hop.
Friendly
Fires
Their
eponymous debut was woven with groove and warped with funk. Together, it
contributed to one of the best albums of 2008. Then, the single “Kiss Of Life”
foretold a musical change within the group. The funky groove was replaced with
the tropical one. Last year’s “Pala” sounded like Duran Duran
on an overdose of modern electro and partying too hard on Copacabana. They will
allegedly record their third album in a cabin stranded in Swedish forests,
inspired not by Bon Iver, but by the protagonist of
“The Shining”.
Bat
for Lashes
Although this adjective was once used
to describe every other musical project, “ethereal” is fully justified. Just
add “mysterious” and it gives you an idea of the musical world Natasha Khan
takes you to. Her music, spread between intimate and danceable, gained her
notoriety with the debut "Fur and Gold". Often described as “the new
Kate Bush”, she stays away from the media just like Bush and does not spoil her
fans with many concerts or releases. Since releasing her second album "Two
Suns", she only recorded a duo with Beck and a cover of Depeche Mode’s.
„Strangelove”. Beck is rumoured to produce her forthcoming, third record.
Björk is the first artist announced to headline Heineken Open’er 2012!
“We start a new decade of Open’er Festival. We start it just as we dreamed it – with a performance from an artist that is exquisite, unique and only one of a kind. An artist that uncloses and transgresses, searches and inspires. An artist that is charismatic and daring. The artist whose performances on global 2012 festival scene we are pleased and honoured to be the first to announce. An artist, a revolutionnaire – Björk to headline Open'er 2012!” Mikolaj Ziolkowski/ Alter Art
Press Release Jan 12, 2012 Justice at Heineken Open’er Festival 2012!
Could we imagine the Noughties without this group, without their famous ultra-powerful compression of pop and baroque melodies, their videos, resourceful and often controversial, the debut album now considered as a mainstay of the 2000s puzzled and tonic, and above all the famous Justice image, the cross reigning above each stage they conquered over the last few years? The xx to play Heineken Open’er Festival 2012
Over two years ago, a modest white X on a black background foreshadowed one of the most interesting albums of the decade. The debut album by The xx will soon have its follow-up, and the band will appear at Heineken Open’er 2012! One of the most important debuts in recent years, The xx are a real phenomenon on British music scene. Their ever-growing popularity is not an effect of marketing strategies, but of real emotions. And these, even after a year of silence from the band, make The xx one of the most talked-about band in the world, therefore we are even happier to announce Heineken Open'er as one of two festivals, along Primavera Sound, to feature The xx in their line-up the next festival season. Their performance will promote a new album, to be out in the spring of 2012. The follow-up to their debut is one of the most awaited releases next year, and one of the best guarded secret projects in progress. However, fans can track the band’s progress on the record at xx-xx.co.uk. blog.

Thanks to her charisma and creativity, she always sets new directions going against the mainstream. She has expressed this many times, collaborating with the most original or exotic musical projects. Last month saw the new release from Björk. Calling it a record will not mean a thing. “Biophilia” is a real multi-media project, comprising songs, remixes, applications, musical instruments, videos, an exhibition, and even musical workshops prepared by Björk in selected cities throughout the world. All this to be a step ahead the whole alternative and pop scene once again. One of the most important parts of this project are unique concerts with extraordinary staging and a large choir. We are honoured by Björk’s intention to present her new compositions, as well as her writings that the audience is already familiar with, the more so Open’er is the first of next year’s festivals to have confirmed Björk’s participation.
Along with the first headliner, we can also confirm the dates of next year’s festival. Heineken Open’er 2012 will take place on July 4, 5, 6 and 7 in Gdynia Kosakowo.
